Challenges Being Faced During COVID-19
African Lifestyle Travel is completely reliant upon people traveling and the advent of COVID-19 has had a major impact on our business and the tourism sector as a whole.
As a small business, our company was already struggling to make a breakthrough within the industry. The travel bans and the country’s lockdown have made it that more difficult to sustain the business or take care of our employees – because at African Lifestyle Travel we believe that taking care of our employees they in turn take care of the business.
The aftermath of the virus is going to have a long lasting effect on our economy and especially the travel industry because people will be wary of travelling, especially to unfamiliar destinations.
Our objective is to improve customer satisfaction by providing reliable and cost-effective travel management services. We are committed to improving the customer experience through convenience, accuracy, and on-time delivery which is critical to the industry.
What Will The Donations Be Used For?
The donations will first be used remunerate our staff to help ease the financial burden which we are all going through, cover operational costs, also pay our creditors and suppliers.
We have come to accept that in order for the business to survive we would need to make drastic changes, including reinventing our business approach:
- By embracing emerging technologies and communication methods to keep our clientele and market up-to-date with industry news
- Continue to inform and educate our communities about the benefits of travel for both recreational as well as entrepreneurial opportunities.
- Invest in the Events Travel business, in order to position ourselves within the MICE market (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions)
How does our work impact the community/give-back?
We at African Lifestyle Travel acknowledge that small and big businesses alike will need to work hard to stimulate interest and garner support from our communities to re-establish South Africa as one of the safest and leading tourist destinations in the world. In order to achieve that we need to encourage community tourism within our own society.
As part of our outreach, the company was already engaged with the education department and a few school governing bodies to:
- Introduce Skills Development Travel Programs in local schools
- Excursions and Educationals for schools (e.g. Edu-train)
- Camping trips to veld schools to encourage class team morale & social cohesion
- Team-building activities for Teachers
- Soft-skills and other leisure travel programs to help deal with challenges Teachers and learners face at schools
African Lifestyle Travel undertook to take one travel graduate a year for training on Amadeus as well as provide on-the-job training in the company to prepare them for the job market as part of our CSI and giving back to society.
